LUXURY TANNING SALON & RED LIGHT THERAPY

TANNING SAFETY
General Tanning Information
Our natural skin colour is determined by skin pigment – melanin – and the presence and amount of melanin varies in each individual.
When our skin is exposed to UV rays (from the sun or from sunbeds), cells deep in our skin – called melanocytes – initiate a process where more melanin is produced. This subsequently ‘browns’ as it rises to the skin’s surface producing a natural tan.
0.3 Tanning
When using a sunbed the UV exposure can be regulated, and there is a regulation governing the maximum UV output of sunbeds under British and EU law. With all sunbeds required to have a maximum UV output of 0.3W/m2, generally referred to as the 0.3 standard.
At Studio 7 all our beds, in collaboration with our premium tanning and hybrid tubes are regulated to this 0.3 regulation, with a 0.3 tanning session delivering the same tanning effect as the mid-day Mediterranean summer sun.
Therefore 9 minutes on a Tanning Lounge sunbed is equivalent to 9 minutes in the Mediterranean sun, but without the risk of burning.
What can you expect from a Studio 7 0.3 tanning session?
-
Your tan will be deeper and longer-lasting.
-
The tanning process is kinder to your skin.
-
The risk of over-exposure or burning is effectively eliminated.
Skin Types
At Studio 7 we assess every individual by their skin type to ensure we can give a professional evaluation of tanning session lengths and how often you should be looking to undertake a tanning session.
-
Skin type 1 - Very light skin, red hair, blue eyes - People with skin type 1 should minimize UV ray exposure.
-
Skin type 2 - Light skin, blonde to light brown hair, blue, grey or green eyes - People with skin type 2 should begin with light tanning sessions.
-
Skin type 3 - Darker white skin, dark blonde to brown hair, grey to brown eyes - People with skin type 3 are capable of building up a deeper tan with longer tanning sessions.
-
Skin type 4 - Light brown to olive skin, dark hair and eyes - People with skin type 4 generally achieve deep tanning results rapidly.
-
Skin type 5 - Deep brown skin, dark hair and eyes - People with skin type 5 can expect rapid tanning results from the onset, with this skin type having its own natural protection factor.

What are the benefits of using a sunbed?
Tanning in sunlight means the body can be subjected to uncontrolled levels of UV rays.
Depending on the time of day, month of the year, your exposure to the sun, etc... you are potentially overexposed to the suns UV rays resulting in sunburn.
A sunbed session is a controlled way to tan, giving a consistent tanning experience and avoiding burning, with benefits such as:
-
Controllable UV exposure resulting in longer lasting and even body tanning.
-
Convenience and speed of the tanning process with zero sunburn.
-
Inducing a good mental state, positive and optimistic, with increased serotonin & endorphin levels.
-
Skin hydration, firmness and elasticity - with collagen red tube tanning in all our Tanning Lounge sunbeds.
-
Synthesis of vitamin D, which helps to boost calcium in the body and improves the immune system.
How do sunbeds help with my vitamin D levels?
UV exposure is the main source of vitamin D production, which helps maintain a high immune system, builds muscle strength, helps stave off depression and low mood, while keeping energy levels high.
From October to May it is impossible to produce vitamin D from sunshine exposure in the UK as the sun is too weak, so just a few minutes on a sunbed 2-3 times a week will enable your body to produce enough vitamin D.
What are Studio 7's hybrid collagen tubes?
All our sunbeds have hybrid collagen tanning tubes (the red tubes you will see in our sunbeds) which helps to strengthen the structure of your skin, as these tubes stimulate the production of collagen and elastin which results in maintaining superior skin hydration, firmness and elasticity, while reducing the wrinkling process and skin discoloration.
Can anyone use a sunbed?
People with any contra-indications to tanning, for example people on certain medications that may cause their skin to react to UV exposure should not use a sunbed or sunbath at all.
Under 18's are also forbidden by law from using sunbeds.
Should you have any concerns or questions our professional Tanning Lounge team will go through your specific circumstances before advising on your suitability to use a sunbed.
How many times a week can I sensibly use a sunbed?
The Studio 7 team will advise you on an individual recommendation based on your skin type and your stage of tanning.
However as a general rule tanning 2-3 times a week is perfectly fine with a minimum of 24 hours left between any 2 sessions.
How long should my tanning sessions last?
To start your tanning process it is much better to build up a base tan safely by undertaking shorter sessions more often, rather than longer sessions on an irregular basis.
With regards to what is right for you, this all depends on your individual factors. At Studio 7 our experienced team will advise you on the correct session lengths and frequency, dependent on your skin type and your current stage of tan development, producing a tanning program that is right for you.
Don't sunbeds emit UV levels up to 15 times stronger than the sun?
No, under British and EU regulations, all sunbeds are required to have a maximum UV output of 0.3W/m2, which is equivalent to the midday Mediterranean summer sun.
The 0.3 standard is reached by all modern sunbeds using regulated tubes, such as the combination of hybrid tubes used at Studio 7 tanning rooms.
Therefore 9 minutes on a Studio 7 sunbed is the same as 9 minutes in the Mediterranean sun but without the risk of burning.
